My renter left several half full bottles of wine. I want to know if I can pour them in the flower garden?

I do not think it would harm the flowers but I need to know HOW I can use the wine for some home use. BESIDES drinking itWHICH I won't do.

THANKS for serious answers. ALL others GROW UP!!

My renter left several half full bottles of wine. I want to know if I can pour them in the flower garden?
Pour the wine down the drain, not on your plants. The alcohol content of wine is 12% - why take a chance.
Reply:I'm not sure that I would pour it in my flowers. Are you sure of the content of the bottles? If you are, then fill the bottles up with water, and then pour on your flowers with about four days of fresh water only increments. Make sure that it is only wine though. Not knowing might do you more harm than good.
Reply:I don't know that I'd pour it into the garden, lest any animals or bugs show up and be adversely affected or have it go into the runoff water that those animals drink. I'd just pour them down the drain--no idea how old they are, right? You wouldn't want to use them for cooking or anything. Good luck!
Reply:I pour wine in my garden sometimes. The plants get a boost from it. I also use beer, and sometimes rum. Roses like the wine best.
Reply:Down the drain will solve all your speculations and misgivings.

How do I plant a flower garden that wont overpower my young grape vines?

Can I make wine with your grapes?

How do I plant a flower garden that wont overpower my young grape vines?
It's quite simple actually. If you plan to have the two somewhat within 5 feet of each other you have to plant a weed/plant stopper on the border lines of where you want he two to be seperated. You could probally find one at Lowe's or Home Depoet. And then plant the flowers accordintly to how they grow and you know the rest. After a month or so re-plant the stopper and turn over the gravel every month or so and then spread out the watering average to about 64% on flowers and 37% on the grape garden. Becuase almost nothing you plant in the ground will stiop the water from flowing.

So have fun!
Reply:Marigolds are pretty hardy and they also act as a natural insect repellent.
Reply:Google "invasive plants" Then don't use any of them.
Reply:First off, you want to consider what colors you'd like %26amp; how much water you have available.

2nd, How old are the vines? And how big an area?

3rd, Some flowering plants (which will help to repel bugs %26amp; won't intefere w/ the taste of the grapes) are:

** Marigolds - Reds, Oranges, Yellows

** Nasturtiums - same as above

** Borage (an herb) - Light to bright blue

** Coneflower - Bright Pink or Purple and a nice White

** Bee Balm aka Mondara- my favorite is Scarlet Red

** Spotted Lamium - Pink - nice groundcover that doesn't mind being trampled + is drought tolerant!

Depending on your gardening Zone, the last 3 will come back year after year.

What's the easiest way to get rid of slugs in my flower garden?

bury a bowl in the ground so the lip is just above the ground and fill with beer. Don't you know all slugs fell off the wagon?

What's the easiest way to get rid of slugs in my flower garden?
I have seen people use diatomic earth. This is an organic remedy. It is made out of dead diatoms, whose shells are made out of a really sharp material, (I think silica?) and the material cuts the slugs, and they eventually die. Although, where you get them, or how much it costs, I am not sure. I am going to guess that you can get it at a hardware store, such as Lowes, or Home Depot.
Reply:slug pellets
Reply:put a glass of beer in the garden, when its full of slugs throw them away somewhere, you will soon gather all the slugs this way
Reply:salt
Reply:Ever seen a drunk slug? Neither have I.

Ever see one drowned in a buried bowl, jar

lid, etc. of beer? Neither have I.

Slug pellets! Poison!

Either that, or stay up nights catching the

little f-----s. I hear that works, too.
Reply:good question.
Reply:I'm sure if you get a dish and fill it with vinegar, the slugs are attracted to the smell or something!!!!then they cannot get out the dish or die not sure which, but anyway you should end up with a dish of slugs.

dunno where i heard it or if it works, but hey whats the worst that can happen!

hope it helps!!!
Reply:Go to OSH and buy some kinda spraycan that kills slugs.
Reply:Use small lids filled with beer. The slug has to be able to get into the beer. They will get drunk and drowned.

Tired of office work....Would you be willing to pay someone to just pull your weeds from your flower garden?

In Florida we have year around weeds. I'd rather pull weeds then weekly reports!!

How much would you be willing to pay (per hour) for someone to pull your weeds??

Tired of office work....Would you be willing to pay someone to just pull your weeds from your flower garden?
My advise would be to check with your local garden center or one in a more affluent neighborhood. I'm sure the people working there have people who call all the time asking for people just like you and they should have an idea of what it pays.

Unfortunately, pulling weeds doesn't require that much skill so the pay will not be that great. You might consider becoming a "gardener's assistant" for the elderly - rake leaves, pull weeds and help plant and fertilize. A lot of elderly people can keep up with the watering but must pay someone to help with the seasonal work. They will not pay that much, they are on a strict budget and require a lot of work. Pushing paper may work out best in the end...

Good luck!
Reply:Unfortunately because of illegal slave labor, that job only pays minimum wage... or less!
Reply:I can relate to Office Work . But think about it , although we don't like to pull weeds , you can be out side and enjoy the fresh air , plus pul your weeds . Take your time , it is good for relaxation ,and do it when your not in a hurry to do anything else .

I myself WILL NOT pay someone to pull my weeds . I enjoy the outdoors . Even if it means pulling weeds .

As far as how much to charge if you decide to go that route ,figure what people get an hr.to do a job . If you hate it that much I would think you wouldn't care what you had to pay .
Reply:Awww, lol. I'm not laughing at you ...I'm laughing with you. I feel the same way somedays. I would pay you but I can't afford the plane fare and we don't have many weeds yet. But you could always come up here and wait for the snow to melt and have a holiday while you're at it?

How do you get cat urine smell out of your flower garden?

Neighbor cat uses as litter box

How do you get cat urine smell out of your flower garden?
spray your garden with a white vinegar/water solution. 1 part vinegar to 3 parts Water. this will keep the cat away. If you catch the cat in the act, spray him with this as well. They hate it and won't do it again.
Reply:Just a note: Red Pepper Flakes do not hurt the cat.

It is a smell they do not like such as citrus and vinegar.

The cats do not eat the pepper flakes they stay away from it.

I have cats of my own and would never give advice that would harm an animal. Report It

Reply:Red pepper flakes like the kind you get at the pizza parlor.

Sprinkle the flakes in your flower bed.

Works great.

This will also work if you have a cat that sprays a specific area.
Reply:kill your cat

How do I keep squirrels from digging in my flower garden?

I had that problem and thought it was squirels and it turned out to be cats, after trying cayenne, worm poop, shaking my fists at them, etc. what I tried was used coffee grounds. Just lay a layer of moist grounds down, I think animals dislike walking on the grounds, it's worked for me.

How do I keep squirrels from digging in my flower garden?
shoot them with a .22 or an air gun
Reply:shoot them with anything you can get your hands on
Reply:You can't. I've tried everything from items for sale to old wives tales and they do whatever they want. Cant keep them out of bird feeders, flowers, either call them bad names, laugh at them or I've wondered about some kind of small dog that hates squirrels., but the dog would do more damage than the squirrels.I guess we're stuck with the critters.
Reply:Lay chicken wire on ground in front of each direction that could be an access. If flower bed not too grown, cut the wire to fit inside the garden. Squirrels, cats and dogs do not like walking on the wire plus it is difficult to dig only in the holes. For an infestation of these pesky critters, you may wish to plant your garden so the flowers grown through the wire holes. Marigolds had been a good determent for rabbits near my lettuce but it never swayed squirrels or dogs (for me).

You may consider putting layer of rocks around the flowers to make it more difficult for them.
Reply:I have heard of a couple ways. (One that is very effective for me...)

I spray a mixture of Cayenne pepper and soapy water on the ground and this seems quite effective... It only took 1 time for me to see results.

To make:

Mix 2 Table spoons of the pepper powder, and 1 Table spoon of dishsoap. Mix well and spray onto the ground. (No worries... 1- It will not hurt them, 2- It will not effect your plants either. They seem to get the idea quick.

The other option I have heard of (I've heard both good results %26amp; no results for this one)

Plant marigolds along the edges %26amp; from what I have heard this can be enough to keep them out all together...

Good Luck... I remember what a pain it was for me... :)
Reply:They're storing food for winter, leave 'em alone.

Geeezze, is winter coming early this year?

Could someone tell me what coffee grounds,& egge shell does for a flower garden?

Coffee grounds %26amp; egg shells add nutrients to the soil, keeps away slugs %26amp; snails, %26amp; (when mixed into the soil) is a good environment for earthworm activity. Egg shells are rich in calcium.

Coffee grounds are good for acid-loving plants. It also helps the soil retain moisture when it is mixed into it.

A lab test analysis showed that: "the grounds provide generous amounts of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and copper.

They also release nitrogen into the soil as they degrade."

The full report is here:

http://www.sunset.com/sunset/garden/edib...

Encircling your plants with coffee grounds %26amp; eggshells makes a barrier to repel snails %26amp; slugs, %26amp; works as a slow release fertilizer. If you are into vermi-posting, feed a little bit to your worms

The grounds are acidic so mix a tablespoon of garden lime into a five pound bag before you dig them into your garden or put them on the compost pile. In the garden, mix at a rate of five pounds per three square feet. For composting, mix at a ratio of five pounds per three cubic feet of yard waste.

You're welcome!

Thanks for the positive feedback, everyone!!!

I'm learning as I research... and I'm finding that the resources here on the internet are truly amazing :) Report It

Reply:Coffee grounds act like a mulch plus add nutrients , egg shell,s add calcium,
Reply:Egg shells provide calcium to your garden while coffee grounds provide a high content of nitrogen to your garden. Calcium and nitrogen supplements (egg shells and coffee grounds) will help keep your garden soil and plants healthy.
Reply:Angel said it all...nice answer! Just watch for ants to invade. Be ready with some type of bug killer just in case...
Reply:Coffee grounds is a good source of nitrogen -acid loving plants- like Hibiscus,Hydrangeas

Roses and many other plants, also good for earthworms. Eggshells good in Calcium you can brake up the shells and put around plants to help kill slugs and snail
Reply:it is called a compost... the soil absorbs the nutrients from food materials.... you can add many things to a compost you have to allow for the material to breakdown before using in your garden....
